Outbreak at hospitals 4B unit declared over

The COVID-19 outbreak at Norfolk General Hospital’s 4B complex continuing care unit is officially over.

The outbreak was declared on April 8 after five patients tested positive for COVID-19. Surveillance testing was done on all patients and staff. In total, 13 patients tested positive for the virus during the outbreak.

All appropriate actions were taken to ensure the safety of our patients, staff and physicians, Aaron Gautreau, director of communications and public relations, said in a news release.

“We want to thank our staff whose expertise and teamwork brought this outbreak to a close.”

Visitor restrictions and active screening remain in place at the hospital. Exceptions are made for essential care providers of eligible patients.
