Turkey’s first pocket satellite, Grizu-263A, started its space journey with Falcon 9 rocket belonging to SpaceX company yesterday at 18.25 Turkey time.

The satellite, which went on a space journey with the names of the miners who lost their lives in the firedamp explosion that took place in Zonguldak on March 3, 1992, settled into its orbit about 1 hour later.

In the post made from the social media account of the Grizu-263 Space Team, the following was recorded:

“The first signals were received from our satellite ‘Grizu-263A’ successfully, our satellite is alive. We would like to thank Mehmet Fatih Engin, Tahsin Çağrı Şişman, İbrahim Arda, Yılmaz Barış Erkan and Bilge Demirköz for ensuring that our signals were received.”

Team captain Çağla Aytaç Dursun also posted on her social media account, “Pride. We designed, produced, tested and sent to space. Now, our satellite Grizu-263A is at the start of its robust mission.” used the phrases.

HOW MUCH WILL GIZU-263A WORK?

The satellite is planned to serve for 4 years and 8 months in a low earth orbit of approximately 525 kilometers.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan thanked those who contributed to the Grizu-263A mini-satellite project, which was launched into space as Turkey’s first pocket satellite, on the social networking site Twitter account.

In his post yesterday, President Erdoğan said, “The Grizu-263A mini-satellite developed by our youth, who came in the 1st place in the 2019 Teknofest competition model satellite field, was launched into space by SpaceX today. I congratulate our young people, teachers and supporting institutions from Turkey who have succeeded in taking part in this project for the first time.”
