“Words are not enough.” “You are missed”. “Now it is our responsibility to carry on your legacy”. Reactions to Hédi Fried’s death are pouring in on social media.

The leader of the Left Party, Nooshi Dadgostar, writes on Twitter: “Thank you so much Hédi Fried, for standing up for the equal value of all people throughout your life and for continuing to tell about what the Holocaust meant. So that the world would not forget. Now it is our responsibility to carry on your legacy, so that the horrible thing can never happen again”.

The Jewish Youth Association in Sweden tweets that Hédi Fried’s heart and commitment have both “touched and engaged us all”, and that her memory must not be forgotten.

The message is “extremely sad”, writes Märta Stenevi, spokesperson for the Green Party. “Hédi’s voice will leave a big void. Thank you for all your fight against antisemitism, oppression and racism and the equal value of everyone. You are missed”.

“So another one of those who can bear witness to history’s worst horrors is passing away. Hédi Fried is dead. A great sadness falls on me and others who had to meet her”, tweets former foreign minister Margot Wallström (S).

“Words are not enough. The voice stutters. Hédi Fried was wise, brave and kind. She was soft-spoken and dignified, persistent and extremely strong,” tweets former Minister of Education Anna Ekström (S).
