Otto Virtanen has won the first singles match of his tennis career on the Grand Slam tour.
Playing the main series of the third tennis Grand Slam tour of his career Otto Virtanen dominated his opening round match of the classic Wimbledon tournament with a heavy hand.
The Finn, who cleared his way to Wimbledon through the qualifiers, didn’t give any chances to the Australian in the first round of the men’s singles on Monday For Max Purcellbut forged the victory with clear numbers 6–3, 6–2, 6–2.
Purcell is 94th in the ATP world ranking, while Virtanen’s ranking is 149.
Virtanen had defeated Purcell last year in France on the ATP challenger tour in a match that stretched to three sets. At that time, however, it was not played on a grass surface, which was supposed to be a strength for Purcell beforehand.
