Riichiro Inagaki was a big fan of scientists and aimed to design a successful manga. But he wanted to do something differently than many genre representatives like Naruto, One Piece and Dragon Ball.
Which manga is it about? Inagaki wrote the manga Dr. from 2017 to 2022 Stone, which has also been an anime since 2019. All of humanity is petrified in history. But two boys manage to wake up and fight to revive civilization.
Although the manga is part of the shounen genre, there are no exciting fights here as in other representatives of the genre. Instead, the exciting thing is how Senku has ever discovered recent inventions and thus repeats the status quo of humanity before petrification. Of course there are other secrets that he and his friends have to reveal.

Dr. Stone should break with the cliché of superheroes
How did he want to differ? In the shounen genre, to which Dr. Stone counts, there is usually a protagonist who traces a dream and does everything for it. He usually becomes stronger and undermines hard training. This is particularly the case with many older mangas like Naruto, Dragon Ball and One Piece.
However, Inagaki revealed that he wanted to break with the obsession of the people of Superman and superheroes. Instead, he wanted to write from the perspective of normal average people. For him it would be important that a manga was funny and entertaining, even if he fears that other mangakas could be mad at him for this sentence:
In today’s entertainment landscape there are a lot of super men and superheroes who can do anything. But in reality most people are not that. I thought about the average man. In order for an average person to achieve something, he has to continue working and work towards his goal. I think that’s cool, and I wanted to write about it. I wondered how to best represent this average person, who works hard for her goal.
In order to strengthen this vision, the idea of petrification came to him. Because if you are petrified, you can’t do anything about it. But in this situation you can at least count, just as the main character Senku does. He embodies the idea of working diligently by playing for a few thousand years.
How successful is he with the idea? From the manga of Dr. Stone has now emerged an anime, which speaks for how popular the original work was. On myanimelist, Dr. Stone also on a rating of 8.27 out of 10 possible points (with reviews that are over 1 million).
This means that the anime is even better rated than Dragon Ball (7.98) and Naruto (8.00). So one could say that Inagaki was in the right place to make the hero into a blatant fighter, but into a hardworking average person. Apart from the fact that Senku is already a small genius.
Who Dr. Wants to see Stone in the stream, can do that on Crunchyroll and Netflix. But a particularly successful anime is currently running on the latter, which recently ended up in third place on the global charts. It also deals with a person who wants to lead an everyday life: New anime makes the leap to third place on the international Netflix charts-even in 1st place in Japan
