Difficult to make predictions before the big night. Some films are already favorites in number of nominations, such as Power of the Dog by Jane Campion (12 nominations), Dunes by Denis Villeneuve (10 nominations), Belfast by Kenneth Branagh (9 nominations) or even West Side Story (7 nominations). The Oscars like to create a surprise every year: it’s not always the most nominated film that leaves with the most statuettes. The other previous award ceremonies may also shed some light on the potential winners of the 2022 evening.

At the Baftas, The Power of the dog won Best Picture and Best Direction, while Will Smith won Best Actor for The Williams Method (he is an Oscar favorite in this category). Troy Kotsur (Coda) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), were crowned best actor and best actress in a supporting role, which may bode well for a coronation on Sunday. At the Golden Globes last January, The Power of the Dog and West Side Story were also honored, while the awards for best actors and actresses went to Will Smith, Nicole Kidman and Andrew Garfield, also cited by the Academy. However, it will be necessary to wait for the ceremony to know the complete prize list. Below, find all the films nominated for the next 2022 Oscars ceremony.

The winners of the Oscars 2022 are not yet known. Last year, nomadland, directed by Chloé Zhao emerged as the big winner of this 2021 ceremony. The feature film, a fresco on mourning and resilience, won three prizes in the top categories: the Oscar for best film, the Oscar for best director and the Best Actress Oscar for Frances McDormand. Chloé Zhao becomes the second woman to win the Oscar for directing since the creation of the award ceremony, and the first of Asian origin. Absent from the evening, Anthony Hopkins however won the Oscar for best actor 2021, thanks to his interpretation in the film The Father.
