The 2025 Oscars take place on the night of Sunday March 2 to Monday March 3, 2025 in Los Angeles. But due to the fires in Los Angeles, the date of the announcement of the nominations was postponed.
The Oscars are the largest American awards ceremony, which rewards US and Hollywood cinema each year. Every year, observers and film buffs scrutinize the prize list and comment on the winning films.
The next edition is already planned. It is on the night of March 2 to 3, 2025 that Disney++ subscribers (which took over broadcasting rights from Canal+, a traditional broadcaster in France for many years) will be able to discover the 2025 Oscars winners in a ceremony presented by Conan O’Brien.
But before that, we still have to wait to know the nominated films. Initially scheduled for this Friday, January 17, the announcement was postponed twice due to the fires affecting Los Angeles since January 7. “We are all devastated by the impact of the fires and the profound losses suffered by so many in our community,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a joint statement.
“Due to the still active fires in the Los Angeles area, we believe it is necessary to extend our voting period and move the date of our nominations announcement to allow more time for our members.” Already postponed to January 19, it will finally only take place on Thursday January 23. For now, the date of the awards ceremony is still maintained.
For the moment, we do not know the films in competition for the 2025 Oscars. The list of nominations will be revealed a few days before the event, on Thursday January 23, 2025. Before that, preselections are made before reducing the number of nominated in each category.
If we rely on the nominations from the Golden Globes, another big awards ceremony in the United States, we can expect nominations fromEmilia Pérez of Jacques Audiard (also submitted to represent France at the Oscar for Best International Film), Anora by Sean Backer, Dune: part two but also The Brutalist by Brady Corbet, Conclave by Edward Berger, or Wicked: part 1 by John M. Chu.
The 97th edition of the Oscars will be broadcast on the night of March 2 to 3, 2025. With a big change for those who are used to following the ceremony: it is no longer on Canal++ that it will be broadcast. In fact, you will need a subscription to Disney+ to follow the evening live, since it is the platform of streaming who will offer it to its customers.
