Oscar winner almost became a DC villain and gave Zack

Zack Snyder brought the DCEU to life with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as his Justice League films. In it, Rebel Moon director cast Jesse Eisenberg in the role of the villain Lex Luthor. Superhero sensation: Leonardo DiCaprio gave Zack Snyder an important story idea for Superman and the Justice League

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder explained in conversation with host Josh Horowitz that he also met with the Titanic star alongside Adam Driver to discuss the role of villain Lex Luthor. DiCaprio thought intensively about the film and ultimately gave the director an important idea:

He had a number of great ideas at the meeting. At the end he said, ‘I don’t know.’ But he was pretty clever in terms of the material and the figure. […] I think he was the one who mentioned the idea to me Having Superman fight the Justice League and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool.’

Even though Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t end up in front of the camera as Lex Luthor, we still have him to thank for one of the biggest storylines in the DCEU. As Snyder and Horowitz also explain in the podcast, this is no coincidence: DiCaprio’s father George DiCaprio worked in the comic book industry for years. Among other things, he served as author and editor of titles such as Greaser Comics and Forbidden Knowledge.
