Together with tens of thousands of compatriots, Orysia came to the Netherlands in March this year. “I come from Lutsk, a small city in western Ukraine. My parents stayed there, but I drove to the Netherlands with an aunt via Poland.” In fact, she did not want to leave Ukraine at all, but her parents urged her to do so. “They heard terrible stories about rapes and bombings in eastern Ukraine and they wanted me to leave for at least a few weeks. Now I am still here and I have come to love the Netherlands.”
