The 2022 Confederation Cup final will pit Uyo (Nigeria) against the Orlando Pirates (South Africa) against Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (Morocco) on May 20. The South African club eliminated Libyan club Al Ahli, while the Moroccan team beat Tout Puissant Mazembe (DRC) 4-1 in the semi-final second leg.
The small African Cup of football clubs is definitely one of the favorite competitions of the Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB). After their defeat in 2019 and their victory in 2020, the RSB will play their third Confederation Cup final in the space of four years.
The Moroccan club snatched their place thanks to a breathless end to the semi-final second leg. This May 15, the oranges have long been virtually eliminated, the Tout Puissant Mazembe having equalized by Beni Kinzumbi (11th) after the opener signed Bakr El Helali (10th). But a goal from Larbi Naji (79th), then a double from Youssef El Fahli allowed Berkane to win 4-1 and thus erase the 1-0 defeat of the first leg.
Bakary Gassama, “man of the match”
On May 20, the club trained by the Congolese Florent Ibenge will therefore face the Orlando Pirates. For its part, the South African club eliminated Al Ahli despite a 1-0 defeat at home (Ali Abu Arqoub’s goal in the 89and). In the first leg, the Pirates won 2-0.
On the return, obviously, the arbitration did not please the Libyan club. On his social networks, Al Ahli posted a photomontage where he elected the Gambian referee Bakary Gassama “man of the match”…
