Lost: Jack Shephard narrowly escaped death in episode 1
In the original script for the pilot episode of Lost Jack died halfway through episode 1According to series creators Damon Lindelof and JJ Abrams, this was intended to make it clear to TV audiences from the start that no one on the island was safe. However, several people who were given the opportunity to read the script in advance did not agree with this decision and feared that the series would lose the trust of viewers right from the start.
Abrams’ good friend, actor Greg Grunberg, loved everything about the scripted series premiere, except Jack’s death, and finally convinced the creator to keep the main character alive. Ironically, he himself then played the pilot of Flight 815, who fell victim to the island monster after three episodes. Jack, on the other hand, was allowed to blossom into the leader, but was no longer played by the intended Michael Keatonbut with Matthew Fox.
While Jack was able to survive, Lost lost other beloved main characters in the course of its 6 seasons and left countless heads scratching over the ever-changing series puzzles. Netflix is now releasing the series, which has inspired numerous imitators from The Wilds to Yellowjackets, to streaming audiences again. So keep your eyes peeled for polar bears and smoke monsters.
