Dexter is back. The new prequel series Dexter: Original Sin breathes new life into the infamous serial killer, whom Michael C. Hall embodied in 8 seasons of Dexter from 2006 to 2013 and in the miniseries Dexter: New Blood in 2021/22. In the podcast we introduce you to the spin-off and explain how it fits in with the rest of the serial killer universe, which will continue to grow in the future.

Dexter: Original Sin tells the backstory of a younger Dexter (Patrick Gibson), albeit accompanied by the well-known head voice of Michael C. Hall. In 1991, the young man in Miami already feels the dark urge to murder within him. His adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater) tries to integrate him into society with a code and fixed rules, while sister Debra (Molly Brown) has no idea. However, when Dexter begins his internship in the police forensics department, he suspects that he needs another outlet for his murderous desire and soon the first victim ends up on his table wrapped in plastic.

Surprisingly, Dexter: Original Sin is not only a prequel, but also a sequel, as the audience learns in the first minutes. The new series follows on from the previous Dexter seasons and, with a twist, builds a bridge to the next sequel series called Dexter: Resurrection, announced for 2025. We introduce you to all the important (new and old) characters of the sometimes surprisingly similar cast and talk about the phenomenon and the future of Dexter.

The new Dexter series consists of 10 episodes and is currently streaming on Paramount+ with new episodes every week.
