It originated from one of the oldest Chinese folk arts, called zhézhǐ, who was brought to Japan by Buddhist monks. Over the years, origami has become much more than an art and is now an integral part of Japanese culture.
The Japanese crane, an animal symbol of peace in this country, is one of the most famous representations of origami. According to legend, anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes will have their wish come true. But many other origami figures exist.
