Orienteering: The Swedish men took EC silver in orienteering – despite Albin Ridefelt’s miss

No, there was no gold for the Swedish men during the orienteering WC in Hungary.

But at least it was a medal, which for a while it didn’t look like it would be.

“It was really bad”

A bit into the second stretch, Albin Ridelfelt made a big mistake, and slipped down to eleventh place – and at once lost almost two minutes to the lead.

– I had a good idea, but then I got a little unsure and saw another check and thought “Maybe it’s mine” – which you shouldn’t do. Then I start running to the third fork control before I realize I’m too far away. It was really bad there, he tells SVT Sport.

Swedes Swedes impressed

But Ridefelt managed to catch up much of what he lost, and switched to Emil Svensk in the final stretch.

And the Swede put in a fine effort, and rose relatively quickly to second place – and kept it all the way to the finish line.

Norway by far

Against Norway, however, there was not much to do. They won in superior style and finished just over two minutes ahead of Sweden.

Viktor Svensk was responsible for the starting stretch in the Swedish silver team.

The bronze went to Switzerland.
