Alexandersson finished with a time of 28.31 in the 5.5 km long race, which was clearly the best during Saturday’s middle distance.
– It was a good competition. Sometimes it was a little shaky, especially in the beginning. I made some small mistakes, she says.
Second was overall winner Simona Aebersold (29.18), from Switzerland, who thus broke Alexandersson’s monster streak of nine consecutive overall victories.
– It is amazing what she has done. It is very impressive. She has performed very well. I’m happy for her. She deserves it, says Alexandersson.
Aebersold had 83 points down on Alexandersson before Saturday’s competition and thus spoke volumes for overall victory for the Swiss.
– I knew I could finish in 20th place, so I knew I was pretty safe. It went very well. It has been an incredibly good season. The absolute best I’ve ever had, says Aebersold, who hasn’t finished worse than second in a single competition this season.
Norwegian joy on the men’s side
On the men’s side, it was double Norwegian at the top. Eirik Langedal Breivik won the race after a strong performance (finishing in 29.17). Second was Kasper Harlem Fosser, barely 30 seconds behind.
The best Swede was Max Bejmer (30.30), who finished third.
