The Building and Environment Committee in Örebro fines the Land Planning and Development Committee in the same municipality after they missed the expiration of a temporary building permit for a parking lot, writes Nerikes Allehanda.

The building permit expired last year, which formally means that the parking lot would be removed. But in January it remained – which costs the municipality roughly SEK 877,000.

– It was never intended to remove the parking lot, but due to new legislation we are obliged to make a decision on a penalty fee for it, says Anders Olsson, chairman of the building and environment committee, to the newspaper.

Routines to warn of expiring building permits were later put in place, but they never reached the Land Planning and Development Board, which in this case is the property owner.

Although it is a zero-sum game for the taxpayer, the fee is important.

– On the one hand, we collect fees from private individuals and companies, on the other hand, the law gives us no option not to do so.

P4 Örebro was the first to report on the incident.
