Several ore wagons have derailed, but no people have been injured according to LKAB’s press release about the incident.
The accident occurred at the same location as the major derailment at Vassijaure station on December 17, which caused the long train stoppage. The traffic has only been running for a few days, then with a lower speed and lower maximum load.
Now LKAB is waiting for the go-ahead from the Swedish Transport Administration to start clearing and salvage. However, there is severe weather in the area on Saturday evening.
– I know that there will be a meeting with the railway companies and LKAB. We’ll see tomorrow (Sunday) morning what they’ve come up with, says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, to TT.
