At Cameroonalmost two weeks after the closing of registration on the electoral lists by Elections Cameroon (Elecam)Maurice Kamto, candidate for the 2018 presidential election, denounces gross manipulation of the electoral register.
In front of the media, at the headquarters of his party, the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), he believes that an audit of the electoral register is necessary before the 2025 deadlines, in particular the presidential election.

According to Maurice Kamto, there is a desire on the part of Elecam, the body in charge of elections in Cameroon, to cap the file at between 7 and 8 million voters. He also denounces unjustified changes to the electoral lists, particularly within the diaspora: ” There are less than 20,000 Cameroonians registered in the entire diaspora and what concerns us is that 364 more voters have been removed from these 19,000 without being told when and how. Since the closing of voter registration in August 2018 until 2024, there has been no voter registration operation in the diaspora. »
” If the State wants to audit the electoral register. It’s not complicated. »
The MRC president recalled the obligation of the Elecam director to publish the list of registered voters, as specified in article 80 of the electoral code. Maurice Kamto also points out two German companies, partners of Elecam, in the overhaul of the electoral register. According to him, they never fulfilled their contract. Which justifies an audit of the electoral register: ” These German institutions are not helping Cameroon. They are executing a contract, but we want them to execute the contract according to international standards in this area. The audit will be done if the State wants to have the electoral register audited. It is not complicated. And it is not a question of us looking for people abroad. There are plenty of IT specialists, there are plenty of Cameroonians who have the necessary skills. »
The MRC campaigns for change in peace and through the ballot box. For the party, electoral crimes could lead to disturbances of public order.
