In India, one of the figures of the opposition to the government has just joined forces with the ruling party. Nitish Kumar, chief minister of the large state of Bihar, in northern India, has just formed a regional government with the support of Narendra Modi’s BJP. Which further reduces the opposition’s chances for the legislative elections next April.

Two years ago, Nitish Kumar severed his ties with the Hindu nationalist party and joined the opposition forces led by the Congress party. In recent months, this veteran of politics in India, leader of the great state of Bihar for almost twenty years, had even become one of the pillars of the great opposition alliance called “India”.
Many believed his party could reduce the BJP’s dominance in northern India. Instead, Nitish Kumar once again turned his hat, weakening an already ailing opposition alliance. The Congress, the only national formation in this group, cannot agree with its regional allies on a distribution of seats.
In West Bengal, the thunderous Mamata Banerjee is set to go it alone, so is the ruling party in Punjab. However, without this distribution, the opposition will arrive divided in April, which will benefit the BJP from Narendra Modiwhich thus comes even closer to a 3rd mandate.
