In each polling station, each candidate will be able to appoint a representative to attend the electoral operations, assures the Electoral Commission (Ceni). The latter also reminds that this year, all the results of the polling stations will be made public on the My CENI website.

But on the side of political actors, concerns remain. The opposition has demanded biometric verification of voters’ names during voting. A request that the CENI considered too late and too costly.

Lawyer Gourmo Abdoul Lo, legal advisor to one of the candidates, also fears that the directors of the polling stations will refuse to give a copy of the minutes to each of the candidates’ representatives, as has already happened in the past. , according to him. The Ceni, for its part, promised that each representative would obtain a copy of the minutes. Another subject of controversy, the insufficient number of polling stations, according to members of the opposition and especially for the vote of the Mauritanian diaspora.

600 observers deployed

The Mauritanian government has set up a National Observatory to monitor the election, with 600 observers deployed across the country, but the opposition questions their impartiality. The African Union will send 30 short-term observers, while the International Organization of the Francophonie is sending six. Finally, no observers from the European Union which will deploy three electoral experts to the CENI.
