Raila Odinga begins a protest movement against the Kenyan government. The unsuccessful presidential candidate of August 2022 issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government of William Ruto. The opponent demanded in particular the return of subsidies on certain basic necessities, while still rejecting the results of the presidential election. The leader of the opposition in Kenya justifies his dissatisfaction by, among other things, the rise in the cost of living. He also accuses President William Ruto to seek to influence the appointment of the next electoral commission or to show ethnic favoritism within his government. In his speech, Odinga multiplied the attacks:
” We no longer have patience for this illegitimate regime made up of hypocrites and false humanitarians. It’s time to tell Ruto and his vice-president that we can’t take any more false promises. Kenya is ready for our grassroots movement in defense of democracy. As leaders, we pledge to fight and resist alongside Kenyans against this illegitimate regime, until our voices are heard and respected. It’s time to take action. Let’s all go out, no matter where we are, to make our voices heard and respected. »
Raila Odinga called on all Kenyans to protest against the government, by organizing demonstrations. He has already given them an appointment in the Kenyan capital on March 20, to march together as a sign of protest.
