OPP weekend traffic enforcement initiative results in 118 charges and

A Brant OPP initiative to address aggressive driving over the weekend resulted in 118 traffic-related charges and warnings.

Brant OPP and officers from the West Region highway safety division stopped about 100 vehicles starting on Friday and continuing through Sunday.

The list of charges and warnings include stunt driving (excessive speed), speeding, color coating obscuring interior, driving without proper headlights, failing to surrender to police, driving without a permit, failing to display two license plates while driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, failing to surrender an insurance card and failing to notify of a change of address.

In total, police laid 99 traffic-related charges and issue 19 warnings.

Brant OPP say proactive patrols focused on aggressive driving continue daily by officers, as well as members of the traffic management unit.

Drivers charged with racing

Brant OPP seized three vehicles and charged three drivers with racing over the weekend.

At about 1:40 am on March 26, police stopped a vehicle clocked at more than 90 km-h in a posted 50 km-h zone on Grand River Street North. A 19-year-old Brant County resident is charged with racing a motor vehicle and speeding in excess of 40 km-h over the speed limit.

At about 7:15 pm on March 26, police stopped a vehicle clocked at more than 130 km-h in a posted 80 km-h on Bishopsgate Road in the Burford area. A 42-year-old Norfolk County man is charged with racing a vehicle and speeding in excess of 50km-h over the speed limit.

And at about 1:30 am on March 27, police stopped a vehicle clocked at more than 90 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on Oakland road. A 26-year-old woman from Mount Hope, Ont., is charged with racing a motor vehicle and speeding in excess of 40 km-h over the speed limit.

The vehicles in all three cases will remain impounded for 14 days and the licenses of all three drivers have been suspended for 30 days.

Router stolen from Paris store

Brant OPP are investigating the theft of a Dewalt cordless compact router from the Canadian Tire store on Grand River Street North in Paris just before 7:30 pm on March 25.
