Provincial police urge credit unions in Southwestern Ontario to take safety and security precautions after two robberies.
Tips include not touching any objects or surfaces that suspects may have touched, in order to preserve fingerprint, DNA, or footwear evidence, watching for things that might help identify suspects like behaviour, odors and clothing brands and advising police of any suspicious people, OPP said in a news release.
“In the event of a robbery in progress, employees at financial institutions and members of the public are advised not to confront . . . or chase the suspects,” police said.
“Instead, cooperate with the suspects and do not volunteer information unless asked. When it is safe to do so, call 911.”
Three suspects, one with a firearm, left the Libro Credit Union in Arkona April 4 with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Robbers used similar methods May 21 at a credit union in Gray Highlands, OPP said.
Anyone with information is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
