The OPP say they are “aware of issues” related to the Alert Ready message issued Tuesday following the shooting death of Const. Grzegorz Pierzchala.
The shooting occurred at about 3 pm when Pierzchala responded to a vehicle in a ditch just west of Hagersville.
The OPP issued an emergency alert at about 5:45 pm warning residents to shelter in place while they searched for the two suspects who were believed to be armed. The alert was late canceled following the arrest of the suspects.
“The OPP is aware of issues related to the Alert Ready message issued yesterday in the Hagersville area,” OPP said in a text message sent Wednesday night.
“We are looking into the matter. Our primary focus has been on the investigation and arrests, as well as the well-being of the member’s family and colleagues.”
On Wednesday, Randall McKenzie, who is 25, and Brandi Crystal Lyn Stewart-Sperry, who is 30, were each charged with one count of first-degree murder.
Pierzchala had been with the OPP for just over a year, Commissioner Thomas Carrique said. Just before his death, Pierzchala had been notified that he had passed his 10-month probation period.
The two accused are to make their next virtual court appearance on Jan. 17.
