Oughtred was discovered deceased by Brant OPP officers at a Salt Springs Church Road, property, south east of Brantford, just before 1 pm on Nov. 24, 2022. Investigators determined that his death was the result of a homicide.

Described as a tractor-loving farmer, Oughtred was a well-known Brant County resident who had a collection of vintage tractors that he had restored.

At one time, Oughtred participated in tractor-pull competitions throughout North America. He was the point champion in the 1973 National Tractor Pullers Association in the 9,000-pound super stock class and won the same class at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky.

The Oughtred property, known as Sunny Terrace Farms, was a well-known strawberry farm for years but grew various cash crops. The family often sold vegetables at the end of the property’s lane way.

As well, the farm was one of the first to grow soybeans in the 1940s.

The investigation into the Oughtred homicide continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB).

Sanchuk said anyone with information is urged to call Brant OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or send an e-mail to a tip line at [email protected]. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a tip online at www.crimestoppersbb.com/ to become eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
