(Finance) – Around 14 thousand trains and 363 stations were monitored in a month, between 25 November and 25 December, as part of theOperation Safer Christmas conducted by FS Group through FS Security, company dedicated to safety. The trains with the presence of FS Security personnel on board were 3,140, while the trains with people checked before boarding were 10,558.
Out of a total of 1 million 678 thousand passengers checked, there were 41,546 removals largely due to the lack of a travel document, but also caused by the intemperate behavior of those stopped or by illegal activities identified on board the train or inside the stations.
The action plan, activated with the aim of protecting the safety of passengers and workers of the FS Group, involved 250 members of FS Security who monitored 24 lines considered most at risk. These lines include Milan-Verona, Milan-Genoa, Milan-Brescia, Bologna-Piacenza, Venice-Udine, Florence-Viareggio, Rome-Nettuno, Reggio Calabria-Lamezia, Naples Campi Flegrei- Salerno and in Sicily the Palermo-Termini Imerese and the Messina-Patti. The critical issues encountered include thefts on board, fare evasion, high attendance, attacks on staff, intemperate and dangerous attitudes, especially by youth groups, and the presence of strangers along the railway line.
Compared to the same period of the previous year (November/December 2024 vs November/December 2023), there was a significant increase both in terms of monitored trains (+55%) and in terms of departures (+41%).
