Opera now automatically displays videos as Picture-in-Picture. In its latest update, stamped 83.0.4254.19 and available on Windows, macOS and Linux, the web browser introduces a new option, activated by default, which automatically activates the playback of videos in a remote window when you change tabs without it is necessary to act on any button.
To find it, you have to go to the advanced settings of the browser where the feature is available under the heading Detachment from the video. To take advantage of it, you must first go to a platform compatible with the Picture-in-Picture display. This is the case for example for YouTube. Thus, if you launch a video on the platform page and change tabs to navigate to another site, Opera automatically detaches the video from the YouTube page to display it in a remote window outside the browser. .
A few months ago, Opera had already implemented a similar function, but it was dedicated exclusively to videos from video conferencing services.
This Opera update was also an opportunity for the publisher to integrate a new function in the screenshot tool integrated into the browser. Opera now officially has a meme generator that automatically displays two black bands at the top and bottom of screenshots taken from the browser, on which you can embed a comment.
