For the vast majority, it is an unknown face who wants to take over when Annie Lööf ends as C leader. Muharrem Demirok, 46, was until recently a municipal councilor in Linköping but has since been elected to the Riksdag last autumn. Demirok gets to take over a Center party that lost in 264 of Sweden’s 290 municipalities in the last election. The party retreated from 8.6 to 6.7 percent. His most important task will be to attract voters back, not least in rural areas. In December, he himself went out in Corren and talked about the fact that in the 1990s he was convicted of two cases of assault, something he also told more about on TV4 Nyheterna on Wednesday evening.
