These are the experts who open the summit before the ministers take over on Friday. Heads of state will speak on Saturday to close the event. According to the organizers, several African presidents are expected in addition to the summit host, President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

They will come in particular from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenyaof RwandaTogo, Guinea-Bissau, Comoros and Gabon. But no head of state from the Amazon or Asia will make the trip.

Environmentalists, scientists, NGO and representatives of international organizations will all come together to look at the ecosystems of the Congo Basin,Amazon and Borneo-Mekong, presented as “ lungs of the planet “.

The main objective of the summit is to “ build a global coalition to accelerate the energy transition “.

The three basins represent 80% of the world’s tropical forests and three quarters of its biodiversity. », Underlines Arlette Soudan Nonault, Congolese Minister of the Environment. According to her, the summit will end on “ a very strong statement of principle ”, aiming, she said, to “ sustain the combination of the three basins », even though some of the countries concerned will be absent.
