Sana is this 11-year-old girl repeatedly raped by three men who only received sentences of up to two years in prison. On the eve of the appeal trial to be held tomorrow in Rabat, the defense and the supporters of the little girl wanted to recall the stakes of this trial.
With our correspondent in Rabat, Nadia Ben Mahfoud
The first issue of this appeal trial is of course the sentence that will be pronounced by the judge. The supporters of Tiflet’s little girl hope that the Penal Code which provides for between 10 and 30 years in prison will be respected this time.
The other issue of this trial is also to know what repercussions will have this case treated in record time by the Moroccan justice. “ This speed, when there are other similar cases waiting for months, shows that there is a willingness to seize the opportunity to rectify the situation. This is why I would like to remind you that in our country there is more than one Sana. So I hope that justice will be done but I especially hope that we will continue to talk about these subjects after this case “, insists the main lawyer of Sana, Me Essebar.
The specificity of this trial is its popular anchoring, specifies for his part Soumaya Naamane Guessous, sociologist and activist committed to the defense of the rights of women and minors: “ Sana’s drama has even entered homes, through social networks etc., even in the depths of rural areas. This means that the population has truly appropriated this tragedy, and we can only be satisfied. »
The trial resumes tomorrow, at 12 p.m. in universal time, at the Rabat Court of Appeal.
