(Finance) – They have already left Montecorvino Rovella the construction sites for the laying of optical fiber foreseen by the “1 Giga Italy plan”, financed with PNRR funds. Open Fiber’s intervention in the municipality in the province of Salerno involves mode cabling FTTH (Fiber To The Home, optical fiber to the home) of 913 street numbers distributed throughout the area which correspond to 1,607 real estate units (homes, commercial activities and businesses).
There connectivity fiber optic made by Open Fiber it can reach speeds of 10 Gigabits per second and allows numerous advantages to be obtained thanks to access to a vast range of online services, as well as simplifying relations between citizens and public administrations, enhancing teaching for students and improving productivity and the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The intervention on Montecorvino Rovella involves the reuse of infrastructure already existing and will limit the impact and any inconvenience to the community to a minimum. As in the construction sites opened by Open Fiber throughout Italythe excavations will be carried out favoring innovative methodologies with low environmental impact.
Among these the most used is the mini trench: the road excavation (10 centimeters wide and 35 to 50 centimeters deep) is filled at the same time as the cables are laid with pink cement mortar. After at least 30 days have elapsed from this temporary restoration – the technical time necessary for the material to settle – the intervention is defined with the scarification of the affected road surface and the laying of hot asphalt. The temporary and definitive restoration phases are always the result of coordination between Open Fiber and the competent municipal offices. Where possible, Open Fiber is also using microtrenching, a technique that can only be performed in the presence of particular environmental conditions: these are excavations with minimum dimensions of 2.5 cm wide for a maximum of 30 cm deep. The potential of FTTH technology is also of fundamental importance in terms of eco-sustainability. In fact, fiber optic cables consume less energy, reducing the emission of carbon dioxide and heat into the atmosphere.
“In an era in which digitalisation and access to efficient and fast online services are becoming increasingly crucial for economic and social development, the optical fiber implementation project represents a fundamental step for our Municipality – says the mayor Martin D’Onofrio -. The intervention will not only lead to a digital transformation of our community, but will also mark a significant evolution in the quality of life of our citizens and in the economic fabric of the area. The vision shared by Open Fiber and the municipal administration aims to reduce the digital divide, increase the accessibility and availability of innovative services for citizens, students and businesses, thus enhancing opportunities for learning, work and economic development”.
“We enthusiastically welcome the start of the work and are committed to supporting Open Fiber in the implementation process, ensuring that the intervention is carried out with respect for the community and the environment, thanks to the use of innovative and sustainable techniques”, he adds Milena Saviorcouncilor with responsibility for the implementation of the PNRR.
“The objective of Open Fiber is to create a latest generation ultra-broadband infrastructure that guarantees high performance in terms of speed, latency and reliability – he explains Gennaro Schisano, field manager of the company led by CEO Giuseppe Gola -. An innovation goal that we are reaching to accelerate the infrastructure process and quickly guarantee an ultra-fast network for all citizens, professionals and production activities of Montecorvino Rovella”.
