With the onset of summer heat in France, the films that came out of dark theaters met with moviegoers on the streets of the capital, Paris. An area of 150 square meters in front of the famous Arc de Triomphe (Arc de Triomphe) monument on the Champs Elysees, known as “the most beautiful street in the world”, has been transformed into a giant open-air movie theater.
Paris Municipality, which closes the Champs Elysees street to traffic every Sunday, resumed its “One Sunday at the Cinema/Un dimanche au Cinema” activities and presented a full cinema feast to the participants on the 144 square meter giant screen. “One Sunday at the Cinema”, which is held every year, has been suspended for the last 2 years due to the Covid 19 epidemic.
Free cinema feast with lots
In order to go to the open-air cinema, it was enough to apply on the official website of the Municipality of Paris.
For the event, 1,750 spectators were determined by drawing among 30 thousand Parisians who made reservations online. Lucky viewers were shown the movie “A star is born” starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
At the Cannes International Film Festival, which continues at full speed in the country’s coastal city of Cannes, new films, each more ambitious than the other, were competing, while Parisians enjoyed the “open-air cinema”. During the movie, ice creams of the sponsor company were also offered to the audience, who settled in comfortable chairs in the style of beach chairs, in front of the giant screen.
“Only two out of every 100 people are Parisians”
Marc Antoine Jamet, Chairman of the Champs Elysees Committee, which organized the event, told reporters that they organized this event to make the world-famous square more attractive and more dynamic.
Jamet said, “We wanted this area to be transformed into a peaceful, sympathetic, peaceful pedestrian path away from traffic. Today, only 2 out of every 100 pedestrians walking here are Parisians. That’s not enough, we want Parisians to come back to this beautiful street. But all foreigners Of course, the tourists should stay too,” he said.
Parisians, who seemed pleased to watch a screening with high sound and image quality, accompanied by the famous view and lighting of the Champs Elysees, expressed their happiness at the cinema exit.
Open-air cinema events, which Parisians show great interest, will continue every evening throughout the summer at the Parc de La Villette lake in the north of the capital and in many of its suburbs.
