Officially announced today, the hydrogen fuel cell-powered Opel Movano is coming. The vehicle will be introduced at IAA Transportation 2024.
The company’s statement about the hydrogen fuel cell Opel Movano was as follows: “Combining superior German technology with innovative designs, Opel is taking another step towards large-size vans. In this context, the new Opel Movano can also be ordered as an electric vehicle (BEV), while Opel is also opening a new page for large vans and introducing the vehicle’s hydrogen fuel cell option. The new Opel Movano HYDROGEN will celebrate its world premiere at the IAA Transportation 2024 trade fair in Hanover. With its hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, Opel will show trade fair visitors from September 16 to 22 how the innovative fuel cell concept can be combined with performance without compromising on operation and daily use. The new Movano HYDROGEN refuels in less than 5 minutes and offers all the flexibility and load capacity of all other Movano models.

In addition to this model, the new Opel Combo Electric and the electric urban mobility vehicle Opel Rocks Electric will also be exhibited at the Pro One stand, together with the CARGO kit designed for delivery services. These three commercial vehicles will be introduced at a press conference on Monday, September 16 at the trade fair, which is home to leading logistics, commercial vehicles and transport sectors.
With the Vivaro HYDROGEN, the brand has already shown how long distances can be covered with zero emissions and without wasting time refuelling. The innovative powertrain is now also being introduced to the market for the largest model in the Opel light commercial vehicles (LCV) range. With its combination of hydrogen fuel cell and plug-in battery, the new Opel Movano HYDROGEN can cover a distance of around 500 kilometres (WLTP1) and can be refuelled with hydrogen in less than 5 minutes. The electric motor delivers 150 hp (110 kW) and a maximum torque of 410 Nm metres.
The 11 kWh lithium-ion battery provides support during starting and acceleration. This means that the fuel cell system always operates under optimum conditions. Another major advantage of the hybrid system is that the brake energy can be recovered and fed into the battery as electricity via the electric motor, which acts as a generator. The van does not compromise on daily use, as the engine technology and hydrogen tanks are positioned in a space-saving manner. The Movano HYDROGEN makes full use of its flexible load-carrying capability and can carry around 17 cubic metres of cargo and around 1,370 kilograms of payload, depending on the model.
The Opel Combo Electric, the brand’s light commercial vehicle model that stands out with its renewed appearance, is quite distinctive and immediately recognisable thanks to its new front design and the characteristic Opel Visor brand face. In addition to all the proven features of the previous model, the new Combo illuminates the road for the first time with the Intelli-Lux LED Matrix Headlight. This feature makes the new Combo Electric the first vehicle to bring state-of-the-art adaptive lighting to its segment. Moreover, with a range of approximately 346 kilometres (WLTP), it covers 80 kilometres more than its predecessor.
Opel’s smallest model, the Opel Rocks Electric, will also be presented in Hanover with a special presentation together with the special CARGO kit. With its ultra-compact dimensions of 2.41 x 1.39 x 1.52 metres (length x width x height) and the CARGO kit, the small electric vehicle has an additional load volume that can be divided modularly. This quickly turns the two-seater into a practical goods delivery vehicle. With a turning circle of just 7.20 metres, the lightweight car can easily negotiate tight corners and streets, while also being able to squeeze into small parking spaces. In addition, its electric range of around 75 kilometres makes it an ideal combination for the local emission-free delivery of packages, food orders or medicines, especially in urban areas.”
