“There were working smoke alarms,” he said.

“The investigation is ongoing” to determine the cause of the fire, with the Ontario Fire Marshal taking the lead, Milne said.

“They have an engineer coming down later this afternoon.”

City firefighters were called to the one-and-a-half-storey house, located just west of Telfer Road, just before 6 am Wednesday.

“Two people got out of the house themselves and then the third party was rescued” by firefighters, Milne said. “It’s pretty close to the one (fire) hall so it was a quick response.”

An estimate of the value of the damage to the house hadn’t been determined Thursday.

No firefighters were injured, Milne said.
