Ontario Agri-Food Discovery Center Holds AGM

Steve Dolson was re-Elected to Another Three Year Term as Chair.

As it continues its day towards an Eventual Opening, the Ontario Agri-Food Discovery Center Welcomed Guest Speaker Kerry-Leigh Burchill, Director General of the Ottawa-Based Agriculture and Food Museum, to its annual general meeting to if some light on What the group in listowel can do successful.

As Burchill Explained to Wait at the Thursday Morning Meeting, the Agriculture Industry is one that is very dynamic and ever-changing, meaning the discovery center will have to continuously invest in Lifelong Education for its team.

“That you are putting together a discovery center intuitively Expects that it is dynamic, but we really need to make sure that we continually support our staff and our volunteers to make sure that they are aware of those stories and can answer questions from the public because Public Are Becoming More Complex Asy Have Access to More and More Information and, ofTents, Misinformation, ”Burchill Said.

The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Which Boasts A Working Farm, has made an effort to make sure that no two visits are the same, Burchill Added.

“You could visit tODAY, you could visit Tomorrow, or you could Visit a Year from Now (and) the visits will not be the same because we are asking our visitors to explore agriculture with all five senses,” she said.

The Ottawa Museum has taken its message to the public through a mobile Museum, Its Ag Ventures Program, Teacher Workshops and Other Community Events, BURCHILL ADDED.

“In essence, we have on-site programming, in-community programming, and then national resources that we can provides for free or at very, very low cost,” Burchill Said.

While Much of its Current Efforts Are Focused on Building Its Space, there is room for Doing Something Similar Once the Discovery Center Does Open Its Doors, Re-Electd Center Steve Dolson Said in a Phone Interview.

“I think we are look to get out and connect with the community, and there will be a felt that get out before, but not to a major extent, Becuse so much of our effort has been your moment, but we see werselves having that are created.

“We’ve Always Felt Right from the start that there will be area within our facility that will accept traveling exhibits that are food and agriculturally related…. have to keep it fresh for people as well, ”he added.

Through these different exhibits and other offering, Center Officials Hope to Keep People Coming Back for More.

“Our vision really is getting people here into the Heart of Rural Ontario, where agriculture is really very active, as opposed to on the edge of the city, where they are very much connecting to a city audience. We want southwestern ontario to come here – so city (residents) and Alike, ”He Said.

The center, he added, will also work to inform people about the country jobs that are available in the agricultural sector.

“Most people doning think about that. They think of farming, but doning think of anything else unit they at the restaurant or the Grocery Store. They don realize the huge number of people that are employed in between as well,” Dolson Said.

Once Built, The Ontario Agri-Food Discovery Center Will Be Located At Binning Street West and Road 165, Near Line 86, in Listowel.
