Only one (!) MCU blockbuster will be released next year – 4 Marvel films have been postponed

Only one MCU blockbuster will be released next year

It is the norm for other series, but unthinkable for the Marvel Cinematic Universe until recently: Only one MCU film will be released in theaters next year and that is Deadpool 3. One film per year – this has only happened once in the history of the MCU, namely Iron Man 2 from way back in 2010.

These are the new MCU cinema releases for 2024 and 2025

Disney announced the new start dates for the MCU films yesterday. The following changes for the USA have been announced:

  • Deadpool 3 – Old start May 3, 2024. New start date: July 26, 2024
  • Captain America 4: Brave New World – Old start: July 26, 2024. New start: February 14, 2025
  • Thunderbolts – Old start: December 20, 2024. New start: July 25, 2025
  • Blade – Old start: February 14, 2025. New start: November 7, 2025
  • Why is there only one MCU film in 2024?

The announcement of the start dates is probably related to the end of the actors’ union strike in Hollywood. The strike, which lasted several months, brought the US film industry to a standstill, but now production can begin and plans can be made. For example, filming on Deadpool 3 is set to resume in the next two weeks, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Some industry observers also interpret the change in launches as Reaction to the sometimes disappointing box office results from films like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. For example, Captain America 4 was postponed even though filming was completed before the strike. Instead, the popular Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will be launched in summer 2024, six years after the last part. That could be the MCU newcomer “as something special” as THR says.

In addition to Deadpool 3, there will most likely be two series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ next year. The Hawkeye spin-off Echo starts in January, followed by the WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Darkhold Diaries at the end of 2024.
