Only four more first-time applicants criticized the Thoren high school in Växjö

It was during the beginning of 2023 that the School Inspectorate came with extensive criticism of Thoren Business School in Växjö. Deficiencies that the school says they have now remedied, but which the School Inspectorate has not yet made a decision about.

After the first round of the high school elections in Växjö municipality, it now appears that the number of students who have applied for Thoren Business School is at a record low.

  • A total of four ninth graders have the school as their first choice for fall 2024. One per program. Last year, interest was also at a record low, but then the school still had 19 first-choice applicants.

The principal: The principal has promised that the school will be allowed to remain

Johannes Ankarbranth has been acting principal at the school for three weeks. He confirms the low search pressure, but says that the principal, the Thorengruppen, has promised that the school will remain, provided that the School Inspectorate approves the measures taken by the school.

Could it be that you start classes with ten students per program?

    – Sure, why not?

I’m thinking it’s hard to get economy in it?

    – But then you have to adapt the costume according to the student background, says Johannes Ankarbranth.

Believes that the School Inspectorate’s criticism has created uncertainty

He believes that the low search pressure may be due to students and career guidance counselors getting the impression that the School Inspectorate’s criticism means that it should no longer exist. The fact that the case has not yet been decided has also led to the fact that it has been difficult to recruit staff.

    – We will now expand our marketing during the re-election period, says Johannes Ankarbranth.
