Foldable phones are taking a new step. This is the promise of the OnePlus Open 2 smartphone, which should be announced in a few weeks and sold in February or March.
Among phone manufacturers, the trend is towards thinness: the more the years go by, the more phones lose thickness. With his neighbor OnePlus Open 2, Oppo responds to this trend and promises a record. The Chinese manufacturer hopes to offer the market the phone the thinnest foldable in the world, even if it means dethroning the Honor Magic V3.
What do we know about the OnePlus Open 2?
Apart from its finesse, which is its primary selling point, the OnePlus Open 2 keeps most of its advantages secret. The design of the smartphone will closely resemble its predecessor, the OnePlus Open, which stood out for its rounded corners and round rear camera.
Oppo also revealed that its upcoming phone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, promising high-end and high performance. Thanks to its AMOLED screen, the OnePlus Open 2 should offer a resolution of 2K+.
The camera should also make people happy, thanks to the presence of three 50 Mpx sensors developed in partnership with the Swedish manufacturer Hasselblad. These correspond to the wide angle, the ultra wide angle and the telephoto lens, capable of x3 optical zoom.
The OnePlus Open 2’s battery, around 6000 mAh, should offer exceptional autonomy, much higher than the Samsung S25 (4000 mAh) and the iPhone 16 (3561 mAh). Wired fast charging should reach between 80 to 100W while wireless charging will be limited to 50W.
Finally, note that despite its thinness, the OnePlus Open 2 will be IPX8 certified, which means that it will be waterproof, even submerged two meters underwater, for up to 30 minutes maximum.
What release date?
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau gave some clues about the upcoming release of the OnePlus Open 2. On the Chinese social network Weibo, he clarified through a post that the smartphone should be released during the month of February 2025. Only a few weeks left before we can get our hands on the world’s thinnest foldable phone.
As with the first generation of OnePlus Open, which was released more than a year ago, the price of the OnePlus Open 2 should exceed 1,000 euros. Oppo’s next high-end smartphone is therefore not aimed at all profiles.
