One year after the repeal of Roe v. Wade

The court case “Roe v. Wade” from 1973 is considered one of the most controversial in the United States. The ruling led to abortion up to week 24 being considered a constitutional right.

But on June 24, 2022, the decision was overturned by the Supreme Court.

Banned in several states

Today, abortion is completely prohibited in more than 10 states and abortion rights are strongly affected in even more, writes Los Angeles Times.

On Saturday, the anniversary was commemorated in several parts of the country – including in the capital, Washington DC.

– The United States Supreme Court sent Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history – where it belongs – and gave the United States a new start for life. So today I say thank you, former Vice President Mike Pence said in a speech before abortion opponents, according to Reuters.

Protest marches

At the same time, abortion advocates marched through the capital. In Charlotte, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke in favor of abortion rights.

– We – all of us – must fight for freedom. For every woman’s right to decide over her own body without the state telling her what to do, Harris said, according to Reuters.

New tours in court

At the same time, the abortion issue has been brought up at the highest political level after a lawsuit in Texas.

The Christian anti-abortion group “Alliance defending freedom” filed a lawsuit against the American pharmaceutical authority, FDA, which dealt with the pill Mifepristone.

– The White House has appealed the verdict, and HD has said that the pill can be used until the highest court has made a decision, says Mark Sherman, HD reporter at the AP news agency.
