One year after the earthquake: “People still live in containers”

A year after the earthquakes, hundreds of thousands of people in Turkey have not been able to return home, but remain living in tents and containers in simple conditions.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s promise was that 319,000 new homes would be completed by now.

Even so, only 46,000 homes have been completed, reports Al Jazeera citing the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

Hear SVT’s Turkey correspondent if the housing promise can affect Erdogan’s chances in the upcoming local elections.
