One was found dead after an apartment fire in Pettersberg in Västerås – three people are sentenced to prison

It was when the extinguishing work in the apartment was finished that a dead man was found in the living room of the residence. The man had several injuries on his body and his legs were taped together.

Three people were indicted on suspicion of murder, but were acquitted on that point and sentenced for other classifications. Two of the people are sentenced to ten years in prison for aggravated arson, breach of the peace of mind, extremely serious assault and causing the death of another. The third person, a woman, is instead sentenced to seven years in prison for extremely serious assault and causing the death of another.

The reason why the people are not convicted of murder is because the court does not believe that anything has emerged that indicates that everything was planned in advance and that it is not beyond reasonable doubt that the intention was to take the man’s life. On the other hand, the court considers that the three people abused the man together and in agreement and that this caused his death.

According to the court, the man was already dead on April 16, while the fire was started a few days later. In the verdict, it appears that the man was both strangled and received a large number of cuts, stabs and blows with various tools.

The three people are also sentenced to pay damages of SEK 60,000 each to the man’s next of kin.
