A man from Houston, in Texas in the United States, is suspected of gross theft after robbing a Tiffany & Co-shop in Florida, writes CBS.
The man, who is in his 30s, must have stolen jewelry at a value of the equivalent of SEK 7.8 million, according to legal documents that the site has taken part in.
The suspect the theft must have taken place at the end of February. The man must then have entered the jewel company’s store and stated to shop staff that he worked for a professional basketball player. The man was then released into the store’s VIP room, where he got to see several exclusive jewelry.
Swallowed earrings when he was arrested
In the interrogation, the store staff states that the man then grabbed several jewelry, and then tried to leave the room by “violently pulling” in the doors. The store manager tried to stop him, but states that the man then began to push and pull him in his arms.
The suspected thief then managed to run from the store and brought two pairs of earrings. During the riot, he should also have dropped a diamond ring worth almost SEK 6 million.
Police later managed to arrest the man as he fled the scene by car, and then saw how he swallowed “several objects,” the BBC writes.
Discovered the jewelry in the stomach through X -ray
The man was later x -rayed, and in the pictures several “foreign objects” appeared in his stomach that the police believed were the stolen earrings.
In a post in social media, the police in Orlando say that the man was monitored at a hospital for over twelve days before police could secure all four earrings.
The jewelry was then brought back to the Juvebutiken, where they were cleaned. It was also discovered that the earrings that the man had swallowed had the same serial number as those stolen from the store.
The man is now arrested on suspicion of gross theft.
