“One Piece” Season 2 is in the works, and Netflix has made a number of exciting casting announcements.
Season 2 of One Piece is getting closer. Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the popular manga is currently in the works. Fans will be able to discover the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden and Drum Island arcs, which will see the addition of new characters. But judging by the cast, this season 2 will also focus on the Baroque Works arc, a criminal organization that introduces major characters from the manga.
And the name of the actor chosen to play their leader, Crocodile, will not disappoint fans, since it is Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike, True Blood) who has been chosen for the role. We also know who will play Miss All Sunday, better known to fans as Robin, future member of Luffy’s crew: Lera Abova, Russian actress seen in Anna by Luc Besson. But what about Chopper, who we will also meet during the adventures of the Straw Hat crew? He was teased in a video, without us knowing who will play him, and especially in what form (CGI? Makeup?).
The other major character in this arc is undoubtedly Miss Wednesday. Known as Vivi by fans, she will be played by actress Charithra Chandran, who Netflix fans will know well since she played Edwina Sharma, Kate’s sister, in season 2 of The Bridgerton Chronicle. It is linked to the character of Nefertari Cobra, played by actor Sendhil Ramamurthy (My First Times, Heroes). These two actors, of Indian origin, are however not unanimous among fans, since the inspiration for Alabasta would be more Egyptian, and not Indian.
Approached to play Dr. Kureha, Chopper’s mentor, in Season 2, Jamie Lee Curtis ultimately declined the role due to scheduling conflicts. It was actress Katey Sagal, known for her roles in Sons of Anarchy And Married, two children, who will ultimately play “the witch,” the production revealed. A major Marine character teased at the end of season 1, Smoker finally has an interpreter: it is the actor Callum Kerr (Monarch, Four Weddings and a Funeral). For her part, Tashigi, also a member of the Navy, will be played by Julia Rehwald (Fear Street).

What is the plot of the One Piece series?
Monkey D. Luffy is a young man who has always dreamed of adventure and piracy. After ingesting a devil fruit that gives him elastic powers, he leaves his village to set out to conquer the One Piece, a treasure that will allow him to become the king of the pirates. But to carry out his mission, Luffy will have to assemble an exceptional crew to face the creatures of the oceans, the Navy, and the pirates of the seas. The One Piece series is the adaptation of the cult manga by Eiichiro Oda.
The first season of One Piece only adapts part of Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga. The eight episodes of the One Piece series cover the first 12 volumes of the series, after the Aarlong arc and when Nami finally joins the Straw Hats (which also marks the end of the East Blue Saga).
One Piece has been a true pop cultural phenomenon for 25 years. Since 1997, Eiichiro Oda’s manga has defied all odds to establish itself as one of the most popular Japanese comics around the world. In total, more than 500 million copies have been sold worldwide, including 4.5 million sold in 2021 in France alone.
The author of One Piece has also entered the Guinness Book of Records for the “largest number of copies in circulation of the same comic book series by the same author”. It should also be noted that the series is still being published, since the 105th volume is coming out in France on September 30. Japanese fans will be able to discover the 107th volume by the end of the year.
