One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 24 East in Norfolk.

Police say an SUV and car were traveling along Norfolk County Highway 24 East between Charlotteville West Quarter Line Road and Forestry Farm Road when they collided on Thursday afternoon.

Norfolk emergency services responded to the scene at just before 5 pm

The passenger and driver were extricated from the car by volunteer firefighters. The passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene. The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

The driver of the SUV was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation and police are seeking the public’s assistance, OPP Acting Sgt Ed Sanchuk said on social media.

Witnesses to the crash or anyone with dash cam footage or surveillance video from nearby homes are asked to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Norfolk County Highway 24 East between Charlotteville West Quarter Line Road and Forestry Farm Road was expected to be closed for several hours Thursday night to allow for investigation.
