Ovidio Guzman Lopez, one of the sons of drug lord Joaquin Guzman, nicknamed El Chapo in Mexico, was detained in the north of the country.
According to federal government sources, Guzman, one of the most wanted drug traffickers by the US, was caught in an operation in the city of Culiacan.
State governor Ruben Rocha stated that the federal police carried out the operation in the morning and asked the public not to leave their homes.
The details of the operation have not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
WHO IS GUZMAN?
It sparked a series of waves of violence on January 17, 2019, when 28-year-old Guzman, one of the prominent leaders of the Sinaloa gang, was last captured.
After the arrest of Guzman, one of the sons of drug cartel ringleader El Chapo, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the USA, many soldiers were injured and 51 prisoners escaped from prison.
Guzman was released as a result of the events in which dozens of vehicles and workplaces were set on fire.
