Some soldiers are hard to sell as heroes, especially when they have hundreds of people on their conscience. Today the war film American Sniper is on TV enjoyed huge box office success despite its controversial storyline. Only one scene caused involuntary fits of laughter in the audience.

Based on a true story, American Sniper follows US sniper Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper), who scored 160 confirmed kills in the Iraq War. But his traumatic experiences never let go of the elite soldier. And ultimately threaten to destroy his family.
Clint Eastwood’s film was controversial when it was released. Some celebrated it as a complex anti-war film, others accused it of a simplistic view (via Metacritic). Meanwhile Many spectators in the cinema burst out laughing. Because of a baby doll.

In a now infamous scene in the film, Cooper’s character holds his newborn child in his arms. It’s clearly a plastic doll, which seems all the more grotesque because of the serious moment in the film.
As reported by Cinemablend, among others, Apparently a real child was originally supposed to be used, but that never showed up. When the replacement child was also canceled due to illness, Eastwood quickly switched to the plastic dummy. Cooper described filming the scene to Ellen DeGeneres as “crazy” described.
