The first trilogy to Star Wars has changed over the years. So also one of the most important villains in the entire universe: Jabba. It should actually appear in the film Episode 4: a new hope, but very different from his later snail shape.
Who is Jabba The Hutt? The snail creature in the return of the Jedi knights in 1983. In the previous film, the heroes had to suffer a bitter defeat, and Han Solo was frozen in carbonite and was given in the possession of Jabba.
Jabba is part of the Hutt-Klan, a mighty criminal syndicate that criticizes many parts of the universe. Over time, Jabba was changed in the films. But you could never see the biggest change on the screen.
BILD rights from Star Wars are at Disney.

Jabba was not a slimy creature, but a person
What was the original plan with Jabba? Jabba should actually appear in the first Star Wars film. There the gangster boss with Han Solo should lead a short dialogue. There are even deleted scenes. The strange thing about it was that it was not an alien creature, but a normal person who was played by Declan Mulholland.
According to Screen Rant, George Lucas later wanted to overwrite Mulholland’s movements with a creature. However, this should have failed because of the lack of technology and a lack of money. It cannot be proven whether that was really the original plan.
At the first release of the film, however, the scene was not used, the human Jabba, played by Declan Mulholland, was not officially visible on the screen. Later the scene was added, but instead of a person there was the classic Jabba design with CGI.

How often was Jabba changed? Over time, the many films for Star Wars had various re-releases, in which a lot was also changed and added. So the deleted scene was brought back, but Declan Mulholland was replaced with a CGI version that was equal to the Jabba from Episode 6, which was still played with puppet players at the time.
In 2004 there was a new release on DVD and the scene with Jabba was changed again. This time, however, his appearance in the scene was improved and was more based on its design from Episode 1: a dark threat from 1999.
The various changes to the re-releases are criticized more often. This is mainly due to the fact that built scenes and characters have often been replaced with CGI.
From a film-historical point of view, you can also criticize that it is difficult to take a reasonable look at the original versions, because on current releases and also on Disney Plus you only have the changed versions. Star Wars had shown an unbelievable amount of attention to detail in many older films because tricks had to be used to represent large scenes: The old lightsers of Star Wars and street signs have something in common and the trick is awesome
