One of the most embarrassing, star-studded sci-fi flops of all time that not even the director can stand

One of the most embarrassing star studded sci fi flops of all

If the average Marvel movie only grosses $100 million, that’s a disaster. But there are films that exist in their own flop category. Pluto Nash – In the fight against the moon mafia, for example. The infamous sci-fi disaster is now available on Amazon Prime Video.

On Amazon Prime: Sci-Fi flop with Eddie Murphy, which made incredibly little money

On paper, Pluto Nash actually sounds like fun evening entertainment: Ex-con Pluto Nash (Eddie Murphy) runs a nightclub on the moon. But when the mafia wants to take over the successful store, he and his singer Dina (Rosario Dawson) have to flee.

Check out the trailer for Pluto Nash here:

Pluto Nash – In the fight against the lunar mafia

Pluto Nash was planned as a large-scale sci-fi comedy for the whole family and had a corresponding budget: Warner spent $100 million on the production, which made for an impressive cast. In addition to Murphy and Dawson, Pam Grier (Jackie Brown) and John Cleese (A Fish Called Wanda) can also be seen in front of the camera.

But at the end the film was a complete failure with audiences and critics, who were annoyed by, among other things, a lack of tension and a bored Eddie Murphy (via Metacritic). In the end, Pluto Nash only made back a tenth (!) of its production budget at around $10 million, as The Numbers shows.

It is considered one of the worst cinema flops of all time (via The Hollywood Reporter). Even director Ron Underwood described him in an interview with Slashfilm as “not very well“.
