Curl up on the couch, pick up the controller, and snuggle up for a few hours sink into virtual worlds: Video games are the perfect distraction in stressful everyday life. At least, most of the time.

For master director David Cronenberg, however, the concept of gaming is the perfect approach for creating another horror vision between human abysses, dystopian sci-fi inventions and maximum disgustingly designed technical devices to develop. And you can now stream this horror vision for free – if you dare.

That’s what the sci-fi thriller eXistenZ is about

Imagine you are interested in video games and invited to the presentation of a new game. But when developer Allegra Geller (Jennifer Jason Leigh) finally shows up, she doesn’t have an Xbox or Playstation in her hands, but a lump of meat. This console connects to a port on your back via an umbilical cord-like cable. You are the controller. In eXistenZ, the boundary between reality and the virtual world dissolves. Technology becomes pain and sometimes sexual pleasure.

Sounds terrible enough and triggers a feeling in the stomach area that can only inadequately be described as “disgust”. But then something goes terribly wrong during the presentation: one of those present shoots Allegra with one Pistol that fires human teeth (!).. Together with the present Ted (Jude Law), the developer tries to find out who is after her life. To do this, however, the two have to enter the game world and the not only visually repulsive nightmare really begins. Ted quickly no longer knows what is real and what is not – and what is actually being kept from him here.
