The series NCIS is currently the third longest-running scripted TV series of all time. It has captivated generations of viewers in front of their televisions for over 20 years. For over twelve years, many fans overlooked the fact that the series brought a father-son duo together in front of the camera.
What kind of series is NCIS? NCIS aka Navy CIS is an American crime series. The focus is on an investigative team from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, stationed in Washington DC, the capital of the USA.
In the individual episodes, the team investigates various (murder) cases that have to do with members and dependents of the American Navy. In addition, each season has a storyline that spans the episodes and forms the common thread throughout the respective season.
The main character from seasons 1 to 19 was Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. He leads the team around Timothy Tim McGee, Anthony Tony DiNozzo and changing female team members such as Caitlin Kate Todd, Ziva David and Eleanor Ellie Bishop.

12 long years almost unnoticed: The father-son duo in NCIS
Which father-son duo are we talking about? In fact, it is about Leroy Jethro Gibbs, who is played by Mark Harmon in seasons 1 to 19. As the main character, his past is repeatedly highlighted.
Between 2008 and 2020, Mark Harmon’s son Sean Harmon repeatedly jumped into his father’s role. During this time, he appeared in a total of seven episodes as the young Gibbs.
In an interview with Hello! Magazine about the upcoming new series NCIS: Origins, Mark Harmon talks about his relationship with his son. In particular, he talks about how he approaches acting:

In fact, Sean Harmon is not the only Harmon family member to make it into the series: Mark Harmon’s wife Pam Dawber took on a guest role in season 18.
What is the current status of NCIS? The 21st season of NCIS is currently airing on American TV. The main cast has been almost completely replaced over the years, with a few cameos from old characters.
In addition, several spin-offs are being worked on at full speed: NCIS: Origins, which will focus on a young Gibbs, was announced in January 2024. Mark Harmon will return for voice-overs, like Jim Parson in Young Sheldon.
Fans of the characters Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David can also look forward to their very own spin-off: In NCIS: Tony & Ziva, the two live with their daughter Tali in Paris. However, when Tony’s current employer is attacked, the three begin an escape through Europe.
